... Sister Cities Matthews USA and Sainte-Maxime France

March 22, 2017 | By FRENCH CULTURE ATLANTA

During the past two years, a new school-to-school relationship was cultivated between Charlotte Christian School and L’Assomption, a private Catholic school in Sainte-Maxime. After two school years of sharing videos and correspondence, the students finally got to meet one another. On December 30th, six French students from Charlotte Christian and their instructor, Dawn Young boarded Lufthansa flight #429 to Sainte-Maxime, France. They spent their January break in host homes, immersing themselves in the French culture and language. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these young women. Check out their testimonials!

https://www.facebook.com/MatthewsSisterCity

WHO: The Spring 2017 Great Trans-Atlantic Photo Contest – “Take Your Best Shot” is open to all photographers, regardless of age and level of experience (including having none!) with photography.

WHAT: We encourage you to take and submit photos that capture the essence of North Carolina, whether it be through people, places, or things. (Specifically photos may include subjects such as nature, landscapes, architecture, individuals, customs, holidays and/or celebrations, art and/or crafts, and cuisine.) Each photo submission must be accompanied by a title, where the photo was taken, and name of the photographer.
Some things to ponder before capturing your image: If you could give an outsider an inside look around the state of NC, what would it look like? What is unique to this area of the country? What is this state known for that you celebrate? What are you proud of in your state of NC and want to show to others?

WHEN: All entries must be submitted between March 17th and no later than April 7th, 2017. Assembly of all photographs will take place beginning on April 8th, 2017. Judging will take place beginning on April 23rd, 2017. Photos will be displayed May 8th – 20th, 2017, at the McDowell Arts Center in downtown Matthews (123 W McDowell St., Matthews, NC 28105).

HOW: Up to three (3) photographs may be submitted per person. Entries may be entered by uploading and sending digital files to SisterCityInfo@gmail.com . There is a $5 minimum entry fee for one photo (or two photos for $8, three photos for $10). Fees may be submitted through PayPal (visit PayPal.com, enter payment to Gretchen.Clardy@gmail.com, provide payment amount and your name as the “note”), or paid by cash or check (payable to Gretchen Clardy and mailed to 2026 Savannah Hills Dr., Matthews, NC 28105).
Note: Entry fee will cover printing an 8X10 copy of the photograph and display materials.

FILE REQUIREMENTS: Digital images or scans of prints may be uploaded. Original files of camera-made digital photos may not exceed five megabytes (5 MB). Digital images should be a minimum of 300 dpi (the higher resolution the better).

JUDGING: Judges will include individuals and/or groups who are involved in the Matthews community, and who range in background in photography experience. There will also be a “People’s Choice” vote, open to the public, that will determine the community’s favorite photo. Entries will be judged on originality, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit. The story behind the photo may influence the judges’ decisions, which will be final.
WINNING ENTRIES: Winning entries will be sent to Sainte-Maxime, for display at the French Sister City’s reciprocal annual Fall 2017 Trans-Atlantic Photo Contest. Winning entries will also be compiled into a 2018 Matthews Sister City Calendar that will be open for sale to the general public, but free to photographers with winning entries.

COPYRIGHT: By entering the contest, you retain copyright and remain the owner of your images, continuing to use them in any manner you choose. You agree that images you submit may be used by Sister Cities Matthews, USA and Sainte-Maxime, France Club in printed publications, on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MatthewsSisterCity/, in any other media, and may be copied and displayed in Sainte-Maxime, provided that all uses are accompanied by appropriate attribution to the photographer.

LEGAL CONDITIONS: Entry of photographs into the Contest implies you agree to accept the terms and conditions previously listed.

Matthews and Sainte-Maxime officially became Sister Cities as of April 2015. Through Sister Cities International (SCI), a world-wide organization, partnership declarations were signed between Mayor Jim Taylor (Matthews) and Mayor Vincent Morisse (Sainte-Maxime) during a Town Hall meeting. This Trans-Atlantic Photo Contest is one facet of how the club engages in cultural exchange and understanding of the respective towns and their cultures.
